Ice Skating Rinks

Pick Up Hockey at Rink

Ice skating rinks are up, running and ready for business (the fun kind)! Flooding and rink maintenance will occur throughout the season when temperatures drop to sustained low temps/single digits and when warmer daytime temps (20-40 degrees) and sunlight do not cause significant ice melt/loss of ice. Updates on the status of rinks throughout the season will be posted here as they become available.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, warming houses are unavailable at this time

Inclement Weather Policies

Rinks will Remain Open

Ice conditions vary with weather conditions. Rinks remain open to those still wishing to skate when lights are off due to less than ideal ice or weather conditions.

Lights Off

The following guidelines will be used to determine warming house closures:

  • When temperatures soften the ice.
  • When actual or wind-chill temperatures reach -20 degrees or colder.
  • If more than 1 inch of snow accumulates on the ice when maintenance crews are not available.

Rink Flooding Policy

Outdoor skating rinks are flooded and open to the public from mid-December through March 1 (weather permitting). In recent years, weather has not always cooperated when it comes to flooding skating rinks. As a result, the following is the City of Chanhassen's policy to determine calendar dates of when it is and isn't appropriate to flood rinks:

If skating rinks can be opened on January 10 or before, all rinks will be flooded. The season will be cancelled if rinks are not opened by January 11.
