Water Treatment

Overview

Chanhassen’s water comes from protected groundwater sources and is drinkable from its source; however, untreated groundwater contains naturally occurring elements like iron, manganese and hardness/calcium.

Water treatment removes all but a trace of the iron and manganese, but does not reduce the hardness or soften the water. As a result, most residents benefit from having a home water softener to address aesthetic issues like spots on dishes, and calcium buildup on plumbing fixtures.

The city adds 0.2 to 0.4 parts per million of chlorine to the water and 1.0 parts per million of fluoride as mandated by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Water Hardness = 21 grains per gallon.
