50th Anniversary
Overview
Chanhassen was incorporated as a city on May 8, 1967. Later that year, the first City Council was formed with Gene Coulter elected Mayor and James Bennyhoff, Hibbert Hill, Al Klingelhutz, and Adolph Tessness as Council Members.
In commemoration of this historic day, the city hosted a 50th Anniversary Community Celebration on May 8, 2017 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the Fountain Plaza in City Center Park.

Ed's Super Fair Circa the Early 1960s
In 1959, Edward (Ed) Hjermstad purchased the Grocery Store in Chanhassen from Willard “Dutch” Pauly. In 1964, he moved the store across the street and began operating Chanhassen’s first supermarket.
